Yoga Sutras of Patanjali translated by Yogi Kalinath - Chapter 4, Verse 12
Pada 4, Sutra 12
Sanskrit Verse
Ateetaanaagatam svaroopato’styadhva-bhedaad dharmaanaam
Translation
The past and future exist in their own form. Form and expression vary according to the sequential progressions of the past and future.
Interpretation
Name and form expresses itself in space and time (past, present and future continuum) as the manifestation of Prakriti (the essence of Mother Nature). Just as consciousness is an eternal principle so is Prakriti. Both arising (expressing) and sinking back to their potentiality.
Reflection
The past has given rise to the present and the present will give rise to the future. Life is made up of sequential moments, master the moment to master life itself. What was was, what is is and what will be will be. Surrender to the moment in order to surrender to life. Surrendering to life moment to moment is freedom and profound peace itself.
