Pada 1, Sutra 43

Sanskrit Verse

Smrti-parishuddhau svarupa-shunyevartha-matra-nirbhasa nirvitarka

Translation

In Cognitive Absorption without and beyond thought, memory is purified and consciousness shines forth without reflection (shines forth as the object alone).

Interpretation

In this state of Cognitive Absorption, subject and object have become one. When memory is purified, i.e. no longer stimulated into operation as in suspended, no conceptualization of any kind can take place and therefore no forming of presented ideas can be formulated.

What remains is the knowing of the object as the “thing-in-itself”. It is a transcendental state of cognition beyond name, quality and knowledge. It is beyond any deliberation.
