Yoga Sutras of Patanjali translated by Yogi Kalinath - Chapter 1, Verse 39

Pada 1, Sutra 39
Sanskrit Verse
Yathabhimata-dhyanad va
Translation
Also by meditation as desired
Interpretation
Distractions of the mind can also be overcome by meditation of one’s choice. The object of one’s meditation should be uplifting and to one’s predilection. This will provide the right framework, one with less resistance, an optimum inner environment generated by an auspicious attitude leading to self-surrender.
This will steady the mind to acquire the habit of one-pointedness by focusing on the object (Deity, symbol, Mantra, Yantra etc..) of one’s predilection. Once one has found that object of predilection, one should stick to that object until one-pointedness is achieved and maintained. Steadiness of mind is not achieved by jumping from one object to the next.
