Yoga Sutras of Patanjali translated by Yogi Kalinath - Chapter 1, Verse 28

Pada 1, Sutra 28
Sanskrit Verse
Taj-japas tad-artha-bhavanam
Translation
The repetition of OM with contemplation upon its meaning.
Interpretation
All Sadhana must be done with full awareness and understanding to have any real effects. The attitude and aptitude to refine within us should be our Intention (attitude) and our Attention (aptitude). That coupled with the assistance of the 3 Rs of any Sadhana being Repetition, Regularity and Rhythm together with patience, perseverance and self-surrender to the process will go a tremendous way towards success not only in OM chanting or Japa but also for any spiritual endeavor. If we develop genuine profound
interest for and in our Sadhana, devotion will naturally emerge providing the added nectarean sweetness to our efforts.
One must be able to internalize and integrate all experiences in order for true self-transformation to occur.
