By constraint on the well of the throat—the ceasing of hunger and thirst.
This verse only alludes to part of the overall technique to arrest hunger and thirst. Along with constraining one’s concentration to the physical attention trigger point of the Throat Chakra, one should also perform either Kaaka or Khecari Mudra. Both of these Mudras have an effect on Prana within our systems. Kaaka Mudra is a rejuvenator and improves the effectiveness of digestion while Khecari Mudra conserves energy by sealing the Prana within the system through the trapping of Udana Prana Vayu being the upward moving breath which also governs metabolism (due to the location of the thyroid and para-thyroid glands in the throat).
All of these verses pointing to the attainment of Siddhis also have their esoteric or hidden meanings. The Throat Chakra is the center of creativity, of Akash, and being the center closest to the mouth—the beginning of digestion.
How effectively do we metabolize and digest our experiences? Our moment to moment expressions? How creative are we in approaching life and dealing with its challenges?
Do we eat to nourish the body or to quell emotional needs / turbulences? Are our current insatiable cravings in life a lack of primarily seeking nourishment within?
