Or steadiness of the mind may also be achieved by focusing the mind on the Inner Light which is beyond sorrow.
Within the Body Temple is a center of Consciousness called the Hridaya Chakra or the Lotus of the Heart. It is in this Lotus of the Heart that resides the Atma or Spirit Soul. It is Pure Consciousness and hence our own Inner Light, the Light of our very own Soul.
The Hridaya Chakra is not the Anahata Chakra or the Heart Chakra. As a focusing point it is located in the right chamber of the heart, about one finger width’s distance from the body’s midline on the right side of the chest.
The relationship between Atman (the Individual Self) and Brahman (the Universal Self) is one of Unity, of Oneness. This is elucidated in one of the four Mahavakya or Great Vedic Affirmation: ‘Ayamatma Brahma’ or ‘This Atman is Brahman’.
We are already That. We have lost cognition and awareness of That due to spiritual ignorance, programming and being hijacked by the senses and the run away mind. Once we are able to calm the mind, arrest the citta vrittis or stop the fluctuations of the mind-stuff then our consciousness can invert itself and go within to discover the Truth -’Be still and know that I AM GOD’, that God or Brahman is no other than the true you and me: the Atman, the Spirit Soul, our own Inner Light which is beyond sorrow.
